To quality for services, a senior will need to provide documentation proving that they served at least 90 days of active military duty, with at least one of those days occurring during a period of war. They must also meet certain financial criteria or have a documented need that qualifies for non-medical in-home care.

Typical documents that must be provided include an original military discharge certificate, marriage certificate and/or divorce papers, social security numbers for your loved one and their spouse, personal financial documents, and the death certificate of an eligible veteran if the support is being sought by a widowed spouse.

 

Should your senior loved one qualify for assistance, the VA will cover some or all their in-home care expenses. Veterans aid and attendance services may include local transportation support, light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, personal care services, in-home respite care, companionship, and even a geriatric evaluation to assess needs and develop a care plan.

 

With Comfort Keepers veterans aid and attendance, services are available part-time for a few hours a week up to full-time, 24-hour care 365 days a year.
